Yes, when Peter Gabriel was with this group they turned out some really innovative stuff, and their live shows were, I believe, something to see, I never did see them live, sad to say.I had heard other stuff by the group, as there was a young lad that was a driver for the company that I was working for, and he was in a band, as listening to music was always my favourite pastime I was keen to know what kind of stuff they played, he told me they were similar to Genesis, and then brought some Genesis in for me to loan. I did like Genesis and saw a double CD in the shop, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. You know sometimes a CD has to grow on you, not this one ,it was an instant hit. I had recently split up from my first wife, always said I would never do it again, stupid, I know, when my marriage broke down I was really grateful that I had a friend who helped me through the really bad patches. I had been this lads supervisor when I worked at the cash and carry, he was the fork lift driver. He was a lad that you could have a good conversation with, intelligent, down to earth and a bloody good friend. He would come round to my house two or three times a week, sometimes with his brother, he was about 20ish, his brother possibly a couple of years younger. We lay a couple of large sheets of chipboard across some stools in my dining room, fit a table tennis net up and spent hours playing table tennis, it's a good job we did as I had no money whatsoever, due to the financial problems brought on by the marriage breakup, and it was the best way of getting warm! We would sit and talk for hours, playing music all night long, often neglecting the talk in preference to listening to the music, now and again he would bring some alcohol round, he once turned up with a bag of coal, his instruction was that I could have it as long as I kept the fire in all night. Now that's what you call a mate. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway is the record that reminds me so much of that period of my life
