In Liverpool circa 1960/1 or more to he point a place on the outskirts of Liverpool called Waterloo on South Road. There were two coffee bars, both with jukeboxes, the best of these was called the Continental (the Conti). The Conti had, strangely enough, an AMI Continental jukebox with a dome shaped top and played about 200 singles. The Continental jukebox looked a bit like Robbie the Robot out of the film The Day The Earth Stood Still, starring Michael Rennie. (I digress) At that time I had a BSA Star200cc motorbike and my best mate, Ralph, had a triumph 350. Every weekend we would head off to the ‘Conti’ to play the jukebox, listen to the new sounds and try to ‘kop-off’. Now the reason for this rambling ode… On one particular weekend, sitting in the corner, was THE most beautiful girl in the world, who I immediately fell in love with. After chatting her up for a while, sod’s law came into play, she fancied my best mate Ralph (who I f#*#’n hated from that moment on.. only kidding!) As it happened much to my delight Ralph fancied her mate and after a period of time ‘THE most beautiful girl in the world’ came round to my way of thinking. I’m coming to the end of this little ramble now.. I ended up marrying ‘THE mot beautiful girl in the world’ and today, 10 March 2008, we are celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. We have three lovely kids and two fantastic grandchildren. Ralph was best man at our wedding and I was best man at his… And no I am not having that sh#te record ‘The Most Beautiful Girl In The World’ as my musicbrick. The music on the AMI Continental in the coffee bar of the same name were songs like Eddie Cochran, 20 flight Rock… Neil Sedaka, I Go Ape and Elvis PresleyA Fool Such As I. Ralph is happily married and living in Australia and I’m still married to ‘THE most beaut…(oh f##k off!)… Ain’t Life Brill!!!
