'bout time we had another rendition by this band...........reminds me of......... the time when my eldest son Nick suggested we had a day out together, just doing absolutely nothing, nothing, just chatting and having a drink when the fancy took us. we agreed that York would be the ideal venue for this day out, so we set the date, time off from work was sorted. Nick, at the time was living in Bradford and myself, I was living just outside Leeds, yuk, but there you go, only lived there because of work. It was agreed that we would take the train from Leeds station. So the day arrived, boarded the train, now it's only a short journey to York and to make it as interesting as possible Nick, the imaginative one in the family, came up with a little contest where one person says some lyrics from a song and the other person has to say what the song is and who the artist is. Well this was going great guns, don't think either of us had the upper hand, there were times where I didn't think Nick'd 'get this one' thought it'd be too obscure for him, but no, another master stroke pulled and another correct answer. The journey was just flying by, yes, we were on BRITISH RAIL, I know, suprising isn't it, just as we were pulling into the station Nick posed a lyric for me, sods law, the final one and I thought I was stumped. He wanted me to give in, but no I wouldn't. We alighted from the train, departed from the stationand were out on the streets in York, I kept repeating the lyrics but nothing was coming, I have to admit I was that close to giving in, I'm a Scorpio and it's not natural for me to admit defeat, so, probably as a 'grasping of straws', I said the only thing I could liken those lyrics to would be Half Man Half Biscuit...............and it was. I think we were both relieved, Nick felt jubilant as he'd been the one to almost snatch it with the last puzzle, me, because I'd come back from the jaws of almost certain defeat. Well that was the perfect start to a wonderful day in York. It's a lovely place to just walk around, plenty to see, and loads of history, I had a unforgettable day with a lad that if, when I was young, I could have had a mate like him I'd have been in my element. We ended up far too drunk at the end of the evening, managed to get back to York station only to find that the last train had already left...........and no we weren't allowed to lay down on the bench on the station. We managed to find a taxi driver that did us an amazing fare of around £25, I apparently tried haggling, Nick told me just to get in the taxi as he realised what a good fare we were being given, so I did. Memories, eh, that's what it's all about, and where other than this site can you give other people your little stories, and introduce others to music that means something to you. Thanks Martin and Viv, the site is wonderful. thought I had to embelish it with the group that almost had me stumped on that wonderful day a few years ago, but in this life-time, in this parallel. Ray...........................in Batley.
