Had to find something by this guy, he really was very inspirational in the music scene in Britain in the 50's.The reason that I've had to do this is down to a mate of mine in Bedford, out of the blue a few weeks ago she recommended his autobiography to me, called Bermondsey Boy, she did so just on the grounds that, like me, he spent a few years in the Merchant Navy...........that's the navy that carries cargo and passengers.......not the one that carries weapons! I have never read such a good book, it's an easy read and it's full of love, sadness and is very moving.....and funny in equal parts, a truly wonderful life story, there are passages that had me with tears running down my face as he did experience some real heartbreaking situations in his life, but all the same a book that is well worth reading. There was a lot of good fortune that he did end up in the music industry, and he really was very big in his time, big in the days when you didn't have stations on the radio blasting out music all day long, so it was remarkable when any 'pop star' achieved any kind of status back then. has to be truly applauded. ray.................in Batley ich bein ein binliner,..........or summat along those lines!
